The main research focus lies on the development of novel stable isotope (13C, 15N and 2H) labeling protocols for nucleic acids. Using a chemo-enzymatic synthesis approach we produce RNA and DNA building blocks that can be used in the chemical and enzymatic production of nucleic acids. The advanced labeling patterns are especially useful for relaxation dispersion NMR spectroscopy and to probe functional dynamics of nucleic acids. We currently focus on studying the 3D structure of RNA/DNA excited states by NMR spectrosscopy.
